About Tregothnan
Tregothnan estate lies eight miles from the Cornish coast, where the deep‑sea creek of the Fal Estuary winds through a landscape of lush, rain‑kissed gardens. Warm, wet conditions and well‑drained soils make this historic seat of the Viscount Falmouth ideal for a variety of plantings. Hidden behind the iconic kitchen‑garden door - the oldest remaining part of the estate, dating back to Plantagenet times - sit the tea and chamomile plantations, where leaves and flowers are hand‑plucked at dawn.
Founded in 1334 and held by the Boscawen family since at least 1264, Tregothnan has been shaped by nearly seven centuries of careful stewardship. Visitors to the Coombe, Halwyn and Vounder gardens - or the secret valley jungle garden and Kea Plum orchard - are treated to panoramic views over the 18‑metre‑deep Fal River, all within a Humphry Repton‑designed landscape that remains largely unchanged.
Today, Tregothnan produces Britain’s first homegrown teas alongside a golden‑yellow chamomile infusion, grown and picked entirely on the estate. Their chamomile flowers are harvested complete with stalks—the true wholefood approach—delivering an earthy‑sweet, apple‑like flavour. This caffeine‑free brew has long been prized for its calming, digestive‑soothing and mild sedative properties, making it ideal for a restful evening cup.
Why Tregothnan
Glass Coffee selected Tregothnan Chamomile because it is grown and picked entirely on the estate and processed simply, without unnecessary steps that mute flavour. The ‘stalk‑on’ flowers are a deliberate choice: more of the plant stays in the infusion, which is why the brew tastes fuller and more aromatic than many chamomile teas made from just petals.
