About Summerdown farm
Summerdown’s organic English Maillette lavender is grown on the Colman family’s Hampshire estate, where over 2,500 acres of arable land are woven with woodland and wildflower borders. These margins are not decorative. They create habitat for bees, butterflies and ground-nesting birds, shaping a farm ecosystem that is both productive and biologically rich. The lavender sits within this living landscape, exposed to open skies, well-drained soils and the temperate rhythm of southern England.
Maillette is a classic French variety, known for its balance: floral but not perfumed, sweet yet structured, with a gentle herbaceous backbone. Grown in English conditions, it develops a slightly fresher, greener profile than its Mediterranean counterparts. The cooler nights and longer daylight hours preserve aromatic clarity, while careful harvest timing protects the volatile compounds that define its character.
Why Summerdown Farm
Summerdown harvests and dries the flowers with the same discipline applied across the estate: measured, unhurried, and led by agronomy rather than yield targets. The result is a lavender that tastes clean and precise - aromatic without being soapy, expressive without overpowering. It is suited not only to infusions but to culinary use, where control and purity matter.
What stands out on the estate is restraint. No exaggerated claims, no stylised farming narrative - just a clear link between soil health, biodiversity and flavour integrity. In the cup, that translates to a calm, balanced infusion with soft floral lift and a dry, gently sweet finish.
